Type latifolia

In Australia the common name for this is cumbungi, in New Zealand it is raupo, but world wide it is more commonly known as bulrush or cattail.  I love these long stems which can be used in floral arrangements.  However,  in the early days they were used as insulation on the walls of one of the very first registered wine producers in Australia - Excelsior Wine Cellars, Registration No:, The derelict remains of the property are not far from where our farm was located.  Apparently the cumbungi lining kept the cellar at a constantant temperature of 18C.  I took this pic at Cussen Park, a local wetland and although past its best, I still found the frothiness quite appealing.
