Re-enactment

The National Golden Fleece Exhibition is on today and tomorrow at the Lake Wanaka Centre.

To open the exhibition there was an re-enactment of Captain Cook's landing of the first sheep in New Zealand.

My blip today is of Captain Cook arriving with the first sheep.  They were met to the sound of bagpipes (extra 1), and a spirited haka.  (Extra 2.)
A proclamation was read by the ship's crew.  (Extra 3).  The sheep was carried from the boat to the road, (Extra 4), and on to the Lake Wanaka Centre.

The Japanese Imperial Navy conducted an aerial reconnaissance of Wellington, then the plane and submarine headed north to make an inspection of Auckland.

37 patients at Seacliffe Psychiatric hospital were killed in a night time fire, the country's worst fire disaster to that date.

Earthquake 7.2 in the Wairarapa.  St Matthews church in Masterton looked as if it had been bombed, and was demolished.
