The rain finally caught up with us..
On our last day in North Carolina, we woke to very cloudy skies but we were determined to see a couple more places so off we went. We drove to the Blowing Rock entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway to visit the Moses Cone Manor where we did get a 2 mile walk completed before moving on to the next location at Price Lake for a quick stop. As we drove toward the Linn Cove Viaduct we started to get rained on. We managed a quick walk under the viaduct from the visitor center before the rain started pouring down. We then made a decision to go back to Mast General Store for a quick visit, then on to lunch at Famous Louise's Restaurant which was very close to our last proposed stop..Linville Falls. We actually had a bowl of soup which was really good with the cool rainy weather.
But as we ate, the rain stopped so we headed on over to the Falls which was just a few minutes away. We donned our raincoats and started the one mile walk to the waterfall. Linville Falls is a couple of falls..two short falls and then a longer drop. Read about it here Linville Falls
This photo was taken as we walked..it was drizzling rain and dark along the road. Joyce had gotten ahead of me as I lollygagged behind taking photos. She was still having to get used to the mountain elevation so she was slow enough that I could catch up if she got ahead. I loved her pink raincoat in the wonderful greens of the forest. The first over look was slippery and muddy so after that Joyce returned to the car but I walked on to the other two overlooks which are Chimney and Erwin.
I am hoping I can get my son and the grandgirls to hike with me to bottom of the falls in the near future.
Tomorrow Joyce returns to the Florida flat land. I think after the rain today with my driving on the curvy mountain roads, she might have lost some of her "mountainizing" and was probably pretty happy to see the four lane straight interstate highway when we got to it on the way home. But we are already talking about a couple of other adventures in the near and farther future.
After reading the prompt for abstract Thursday...
I don't know that this will be the right idea but we were INSIDE the forest and this is a little but abstract...okay..maybe more impressionistic!
