According to NIWA, Nelson, NZ will celebrate Winter Solstice with 
9 hrs:11mins:24secs of daylight.

The winter solstice was at 4.24pm today - that is the point where the southern hemisphere is tilted furthest away from the sun.

Wednesday is also the shortest day of the year, with Auckland at the top of the North Island having nine hours and 37 minutes of daylight, while Invercargill at the bottom of the South Island has eight hours and 35 minutes.
