I Wanna Hold Your Hand

True NHS. I was in Kingston-upon-Hull - UK City of Culture 2017 - to observe one of my students, L, assess her student doing maxillofacial surgery.

The first case was extremely difficult and took a long time. The procedure was under local anaesthesia, and the patient was getting a little distressed.

The scrub nurse who was really busy with equipment and assisting, nodded to her colleague who took over. The first nurse just walked next to the patient and held her hand for the rest of the operation.

Humbling to watch. True NHS. True North.
