The 'Catherine' window
In preparation for my talk to the guild I took this picture of one of the stained glass windows in Newhills Parish Church. The lady commemorated here Christian or Christina Catherine Smith founded the local convalescent home, was the minister's wife and involved in lots of local philanthropy - her partner on the next pane is St Catherine of Siena who in the 14th century looked after the sick and was also involved in philanthropy. Two women with the name Catherine with similar interests 500 years apart. The window was placed in the church in 1929.
