Viking Flamingo
Today was a day of culture. We went to the National Museum to check out the Viking hoard - which is one of the most significant finds for the Viking age in Scotland and Ireland. The pieces are truly remarkable and enigmatic - the runes are Anglo-Saxon rather than Nordic. Some of the patterns have never been found before and some of the pieces suggest they come from far away. Most remarkable there were some textile remains as well. The museum is currently raising funds to ensure the hoard stays in Scotland and remains accessible to the public.
We then went on the checkout the Edinburgh Alphabet - an exhibition of various pieces from the various city museums. I really enjoyed the exhibition although (maybe because) it is a wild mixture. I loved seeing the pigeons that used to be at the top of Leith Walk again, I also love the statute that appeared at Valentines day which we missed. My most favourite was the panorama from St Giles. Would be cool to take a similar photo. I'll be going back to see the exhibition.
Finally, we chilled out in Princes St Gardens. Lovely weather, it was even hot.
