Common

When I set myself the challenge to find and identify wildflowers during June, I deliberately wanted to restrict this to common species, the kind that are seen everywhere and are so ubiquitous that they are often overlooked and sometimes regarded as weeds. I have known all along of places to go to see more uncommon flowers, but have resisted the temptation to do so.

So, it’s unlikely that there will be any rare orchids in my journal. However, when a roadside verge is full of common orchids, then that is just a delight and has to be recorded.

intothehills has already blipped orchids around Orton, but as we were there for ice cream this afternoon, I just had to go and have a look. And he is right; the verges are still full of flowers, including these orchids. I now know from his blip that they are Common Spotted Orchids, as I had assumed them to be, but what a joy to see them amongst all the other flowers and grasses.
