Les Chateaux a Velo
After a leisurely breakfast we set off on perfectly straight country roads over flat land to Blois. The barley was golden in the fields. When we reached wooded areas there were signs to beware of wild boar crossing but we didn't see any.
We reached our site at noon and had to circle around a few times to find a suitable pitch - the best ones under trees were too close to a dozen youths which we thought might get a bit noisy.
After chilling out reading our books till the midday heat died down we took part of Lea Chateaux a Velo, 400km track going around the Loire valley to the numerous chateaux. The Europeans certainly know how to
make it pleasant for cyclists. We cycled along the banks of the wide river to Blois a beautiful old town. We had a wander round and decided we didn't feel up to spending over €20 to look inside as tomorrow we hope to cycle further to another - and we were gasping for a beer. We sat in the shade discussing the books we were reading then cycled back to have dinner - which I prepared earlier.
#2 daughter left home with husband and the 2 boys at 5.20 am for Edinburgh Airport. (James aged 2 was still insisting he was going to Gran Grand's house). They flew to Bordeaux - were held up ages at passport control and baggage reclaim so it was 5 pm before they'd picked up the car hire and set off for their holiday house in the Dordogne. I hope they get there before dark as it seems to be miles from anywhere! We'll give them a couple of days to recover before we arrive!
