His Lordship and I are off this morning on our marathon journey north to Orkney for an extended stay of 3 weeks. It will take 12 hours by bus and ferry but will be free except for the ferry. Any discomfort in the travelling has to be offset against this!

My trusty carry-on case which has hitherto served many a journey over the years, was mortally wounded on the AerLingus flight back from Ireland in May. This shiny new blue one is considerably bigger, meaning that I can fit in more 'stuff' than I probably require. 'Twas always thus - possessions expand to fill the available space.
