OSCI

Oregon State Correctional Institution is a 33 acre medium security prison for men.  It's located in Salem and is one of several prisons that my college has a partnership with to provide educational opportunities for inmates.  At this facility I spent time talking with inmates Aaron and Wayne, two students benefitting from the program.  In their early 50's both men are tutors in the GED program we offer and are also taking classes to earn their AAOT, which is a two year transfer degree.  These men both stated that they knew education was the key to a better future and look forward to earning their bachelor's degree when they get out.  It's always sobering to go inside, and also very inspiring to see the power of education in action...
