It Makes You Wonder...

Why do some types of birds build their nests in such odd places?

This mama duck built hers on a slab of concrete that slants down from the road bridge to the water. The lighter metal across the top is the culvert that goes underneath the bridge. WHAT IS SHE THINKING?

When I passed her this morning on my walk (without my camera) a concerned passer-by was trying to give her a helping hand. It was again 90F here, and momma duck won't leave her eggs...to even get a drink from the pond. She was, in fact, seeming to pant like a dog. The young female jogger sacrificed her own drinking water, and dribbled it down the concrete. Mama duck lapped it up.
