Navvie's Graveyard

Black Water must be one of the (if not the) oldest large hydro electric dams in Scotland. Built between 1905 and 1909 to power the Kinlochleven aluminium smelter in an era where health and safety were barely considered it also has its own graveyard. The stones simply offer a name and a date of death but the monument nearest to the camera in the image is inscribed with a date and "No Name".
From here you look north to the Mamore Mountains and to the south the Glencoe peaks and a few hundred metres east the dam itself. Perhaps not high enough to cast a real shadow on the graveyard but still the sad darkness of the lost lives. If there is comfort to be taken it is that this must be one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots for a cemetry.

My sombre mood continues hearing the still unfolding news of the dreadful tower block fire in London, so sorry for those caught up in it all.
