Strawberry meringue cake

Looking rather lopsided in this photo (it wasn't really) this was the cake I made for my brother and sister in law for afternoon tea! It is his birthday tomorrow, but the celebrations began with us today!
They arrived from Oxford in time for a leisurely lunch, after which we went to our garden centre to look for pots!
I bought a new pond plant and some runner bean seedlings, and they found two large pots to take back home.
We had some catching up to do, exchange of news and plenty of chat. They stayed til about 7 pm - and we skipped supper (until a small snack much later) as we had already had plenty to eat!
