Mother and Children's Day
This is a public holiday in Mongolia and we started off by visiting a local family in their get (yurt). It's customary to arrive and call "Hold the dogs" before entering the home. Mongolian hospitality is such that you can enter, even if the family aren't around, and use their home to prepare a meal. Our cook made us lunch whilst we had a good look around and ate biscuits spread with the cream that is thickening on the stove in the main pic.
From there we headed to Arvaikheer, where the public holiday was in full swing. Parents and children were out in force, all dressed up for the occasion. In the main square, kids were playing on bicycles and ride on remote controlled cars. They were fascinated by us as much as we were by them
