Maritime Interests
While it may not have the glamour for yachtsmen of the September Southampton Boat Show, Seawork International at Mayflower Park, Southampton this week has a key role in the maritime life of the nation’s ports and coastal waters.
The Commercial Marine and Workboat Exhibition and Conference is marking its 20th anniversary and more than 7,500 maritime professional are due to attend the three day exhibition. Fishing boats, harbour launches, patrol boats, rescue craft and a host of boats for other purposes, as well as everything from engines to navigation equipment are all part of the scene.
It is organised by Fareham-based Mercator Media and is recognised as Europe's leading commercial marine and workboat show.
The inaugural Seawork exhibition was staged at Southampton Docks in 1998, and its success and popularity has grown from then.
Back then there was so little opportunity for the European commercial marine market to come together under one roof and talk about and conduct business.
But this week, with more than 7,000 visitors from over 70 countries, Seawork is where maritime buyers, sellers, innovators and legislators come together for what organisers claim are three valuable days.
