Stuck

There are a variety of notices stuck on the community bulletin board in Fulford, some with stick pins, some with staples, some with tape.  The notice about the Community Overdose Prevention and Response Training is especially important.  There is an opioid crisis in this province, as there is in many other parts of the world.  So far in 2017, there have been at least 170 overdose deaths in Vancouver alone.  Sometimes people from all walks of life get stuck in life choices that have unfortunate outcomes, and we should be careful about how we stereotype or criticize drug users.  A professor from a community college was one of those who died.  At least one young person has died on this island.  Scary. This crisis has shown that not only drug addicts are in danger.  Recreational drug users are as well because it's impossible to know what's contained in any drug nowadays.  Drug use in our society is not going away.   Discussions about how to tackle this are important, and we should avoid being stuck in narrow thinking regarding this major societal problem.
