Smart

Spent the greater part of the morning up on the roof of a friend's house.  Well, actually, I was the nipper holding the ladder steady on the first floor roof, whilst my 74 year old senior was up said ladder reaching high onto the second tier of the mansard to do some repairs.  I had to dodge the falling debris as he chipped away at slates, shaping the new ones expertly to fit the spaces from which the old ones had fallen.  I think I will wear a hard hat next time!  Later we visited roofer and his wife to exchange gossip and wines.  They tow a little smart car behind their camper wagon when they go touring. The shape and colour of the dials and instruments appealed to me.
