Backblip: Burravoe Marina

The only caravan site on Unst listed on our handy Shetland guide to such places does not sport the doggy symbol "Pets Welcome". This forced us to wild camp on Unst. We like to follow the one night rule and so we we packed up and left St Olaf's in search of something to do or see and to find a different place to stay for our second night..

The weather was cold and miserable and nothing was open. We went to Saxa Vord, where the Resort turned out to be mainly closed down (the chocolate shop), or simply closed (most of it), and much less dog-friendly than their advert claimed. Imagine our excitement to find that they have an Escape Room ! What fun! But, no, it was Closed.

After checking out the listed dog walks, we realised that none of them would suit. They were all high level and shrouded in cloud today or on-road. and Nell was in need of some free exercise.

We both admitted that Unst was not meeting expectations and decided together that we would scrap night two in favour of a return to Yell.

The marina at Burravoe has a delightful little community-run caravan site attached. It takes just 8 vans with room  for 4 tents as well, and costs just £10 a night with EHU and all facilities included. There is a little kitchen, with washer and drier for use for "donations" in addition to the shower and toilets. It is a lovely quiet location, with walks leading directly off the site and well away from roads.

We promptly decided to stay for two nights,
