Buster's Book Review!!

Buster agreed with the rest of the group, The Jacaranda Tree by H E Bates is a great read and thoroughly recommended!

"During World War II, a small English community are forced to flee when Japanese forces invade Burma. Paterson, the manager of a rice-mill, organises the evacuation and takes with him his Burmese mistress and her young brother. The rest of the party take along their prejudices, their pettiness and their squabbles, and a small enclave of English insularity moves north through Burma. Inevitably, as the journey continues, bitterness, tension and insoluble conflict unfold..." Amazon

And in other news... Was just about to book my train tickets to Ely today when I received another of those phone calls that turns your day upside down. The short version of a long story: my dad was due to have a knee replacement this morning but there was a mishap with the anaesthetic, his heart rate and blood pressure plummeted and the operation had to be stopped. The hospital admitted they made a mistake and were very apologetic, but they looked after him very well, and I've left him sitting up in bed this evening, feeling much better. All being well, he'll be back home tomorrow. He still has a lot of hoops to jump through, but he's very pleased that he'll now be able to go to the wedding in Ely this weekend. So as far as the wedding weekend goes, it's back to plan A! Must dash, a whole list of phone calls to be made, and plans to be re-rearranged!!
