The Dome

In older times, the reason for having a dome on top of a mosque was to amplify and project the voice of the Imams during prayer services. Although, due to modern amplification methods, they are no longer required to serve this purpose, modern mosques are still constructed with these domes which are then made as decorative and ornate as possible.

The dome on the Central Glasgow Mosque is an impressive example of this.
