. . . About the lifeboat volunteers, for the lifeboat volunteers . . .

I went down to Filey Lifeboat Station for a very special Yorkshire Day. I had the total pleasure of meeting Jack Lowe and his assistant Mark.
Jack has made a 5 year commitment to taking photographs of RNLI Stations & Crews across the UK . . . not just any photographs . . . images are produced on photographic glass plates as they were in the 1800s. Darkroom facilities need to be close-to-hand and this takes the form of Neena . . . an ex-NHS emergency ambulance transformed into a mobile darkroom.
Just 50 prints will be made from each glass plate produced . . . at 3 plates per Lifeboat Station . . . a view from the Station, the Crew and the Coxswain . . . for 238 Stations . . . a total of 714  plates means a load of work.
The Lifeboat Station Project is one of the largest projects ever undertaken in the history of photography.

Jack will be full of Grand Yorkshire Spirit this week as he is in Scarborough on Tuesday, Whitby on Thursday and Staithes on Saturday.
