Windsor Castle
What a fab day out - I so enjoyed my birthday treat.
After C's cricket session this morning we set off for Windsor and arrived to a beautiful sunny day. We did some exploring around the Main Street, converted train station/shopping arcade and around the castle. The queue to get into the castle stretched all the way down the side of it and beyond and was 1-2 hours waiting time. We decided to wait and have afternoon tea first.
A fine idea, the Harte and Garter did a gorgeous job, scones, cream, jam, sarnies and fizz. We were stuffed and ready to brave the queue (well T did for us!). Once inside the castle it was excellent, lots for children to find and look at, a quiz sheet, special audio guides and the castle grounds are like a small town. It was fascinating. We saw St George's chapel, the state apartments, Queen Mary's dolls house, the outside of the Queen's private apartments and the castle grounds.C was quite fascinated by one of the guards matching and stamping about.
R got quite tired by the end after a lot of walking/refusing her pushchair, sun and fresh air and fell asleep on my shoulder before we made it to the ice cream shop bless her.
An ice cream revived C and his quiz sheet and then there was time for souvenirs before a quick Italian at Prezzo.
We were all exhausted when we got home - fab day out!
