A wonderful evening.............

................at the first ever Picnic Proms in the Park at the British Ironwork Centre.

Once the rain stopped and picnics were taken, the evening commenced with the Clwyd Clippers, a highly entertaining group of about 35 Barbershop Singers.

They were followed by the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra who were highly professional and included two violin solos (first a piece from Saint Saens and then  the theme tune to the film Schindler's List) from Lily Whitehurst. These, for me, had to be the highlight of the evening, which ended with the traditional Land of Hope and Glory etc and a firework display.

The extra photos are of one of the Ironworks Centre's latest projects, The National Monument Against Violence and Aggression. Known as 'The Knife Angel', it is a 28' high statue created from surrendered weapons and blades, and has been created by the sculptors at the Ironworks in collaboration with 43 Uk police forces as part of the campaign to reduce the number of knives on our streets. The aim is to have it placed on the 4th plinth at Trafalgar square and ultimately to have it become a part of the reduction in knife crime in our country. It has been filmed by the One Show team and should be aired on one of this weeks programmes if you want to know more. 30000 signatures have already been collected by the centre but a total of 100000 are needed for the issue to be raised at government level. Visit the British Ironworks web-site or Facebook page to find out how you can support them.

All in all, an excellent evening, in a great setting in good company.
