Montalto House

Stranmillis University College offers an afternoon at Montalto House as part of its 'Lifelong Learning' programme.

There was a talk about 'The Battle of Ballynahinch' in 1789 as our intro to the estate, as some of the skirmishes took place around the house. Then we had a tour of the 'Big House' followed by afternoon tea.

I have to confess to being decidedly bored by the detail of cannon and cannonball dimensions and would much rather have heard about life in the house, upstairs and downstairs! I'm such a philistine....

This is a shot down one of the corridors off the main part of the house. Most of the building is Georgian now, after fires and various ravages of the original building. I really love the Georgian dimensions.
