For the last few mornings I have been out to see the moon setting. It has been beautiful, but so dark that everything other than the moon was black. The contrast was too great to even get a silhouette photo. This morning was a little better and I got this shot. However, this is a poor quality compared to a similar shot I took three years ago, which has more detail in the moon and the sky is purple. I studied the EXIF data of both and found very little difference between the two. The big difference was time. Today’s moonset was 20 minutes earlier than the previous shot. Twenty minutes would have made all the difference. The sky would have lightened by then, and it would be easier to focus on the moon.
