European wasp
In the house and garden I have found a few dozy wasps today, still sleepy after the winter. I relocated the ones in the house to the garden and this is one of those. It soon perked up and flew off in a buzzing frenzy. Probably I should have dispatched it to wasp heaven, but I don't like to kill things (except ants in the kitchen...) so it lived to be a nuisance another day.
Great big wasp
European wasps have only been in Australia since 1959 and most Aussies seem to dislike them. They don't bother me, having grown up with them as the ever present, uninvited guest at summer alfresco dining. Portuguese millipedes, on the other hand (another accidental introduction in the '50s), I could definitely live without. They smell really horrible and eat tender young vegetables and invade houses in their thousands sometimes.
