House On The Hill
After about 8 hours of being dtuck in the car yesterday it was decided that we'd go for a local walk, leaving the car in the garage. We did walk 12 of the Sunflower (2008 edition) car tours and walks of Western Crete. The walk was supposed to be about 6.2 miles but you can add another mile to that as we got lost due to route changes!
The blipfoto shows The House On The Hill which can be seen from the surrounding villages of Afrata, Astratigos, and Kolimbari, and basically was the centre of our walk. When I first saw it I thought it was a church but it's a relatively new house - they must have been very friendly with the town mayor as I doubt they get such permission in the UK! The view from the ridge on which the house stands are stunning. We enjoyed soft drinks in Kolimbari village before a near 3 mile ascent uphill back to the start. Humid to start but cooled with a pleasing breeze.
