Firebug

Packing up at after the Wedding Present gig at the Firebug in Leicester, an 'informal' warm-up for the 'George Best' tour where they're playing the whole album before David Gedge puts the work of his younger self away for good. Really good it was too and that's not just nostalgia talking -, despite the presence of plenty of male pattern baldness down the front re-living it's student days, the band offset that with an opening selection of more recent 'post-rock'-leaning type things and then attacked the old stuff pretty much like it was punk rock. Despite the train-journey, the foul weather and the late night (not to mention the fact that I'm seeing them at Rock City on Friday) I was glad I went...
