Corran Ferry
The two ferry approach to Mull (Corran then Lochaline) is a disasterous commuting arrangement.
On the way home we missed a Fishnish to Lochaline sailing by about 30 seconds. The ramp was still going up as he pulled out. You wait an hour for the next one. By which time you are into the thirty minute turnaround time table at Corran, When you are two miles away from Ardgour you meet a big column of traffic which has just come of the most recent crossing and of course miss that one by 30 seconds as well. Finishing a minute earlier on Mull can save about an hour and a half.
The frustrating wait at Ardgour (Corran Ferry) did accomodate a wee stretch at the waters edge. At high tide this lamp column on the ferry ramp looks like it has been plonked in the loch rather than the traditional road side position. The ferry moored in the distance is Highland Council's spare Corran Ferry. It is brought in to play once a year when the normal boat gets serviced.
Actually we were very lucky as it turned out, elsewhere Calmac sailings were cancelled all over the west coast. When we arrived at Fishnish the off island queue for the small Loch Fyne boat must have had about forty vehicles. The explanation for its disproportionate demand was that the Craignure to Oban ship was off and this was the only way off the island. These poor folk expecting to arrive in Oban were giving themselves a near 100 mile detour on narrow roads and of course the Corran Ferry.
