Not a flower . . .
. . . but many flowers.
I met up with marpaul and Misty in Bitts Park, Carlisle, this afternoon and we had a lovely wander by the river. Things did not quite turn out as planned however.
One plan was to walk through this wild area, between the cut grass and ornamental gardens part of the park, and the river, and find wildflowers. We did this and found lots of flowers. However, it was so windy that it was impossible to take photos. Marian will laugh, as I took loads of pictures and was going to identify what we had seen. Couldn’t do it.
Another plan was for Marian to take me to the bridge where a few days ago the river was so low that the footings of a previous bridge, probably medieval or Roman, could be seen. That didn’t happen and you can see why from the picture. All the rain we have had over the last couple of days has meant the water levels have risen quite remarkably and nothing is to be seen.
So here – The River Eden at high water level (you can see how brown the water is as it has come down very quickly from the hills), the current bridge, not the old one . . . and lots of flowers and grasses in the foreground. As I have never been along these paths or seen the flowers, I think that counts as a wild activity. And it was a lovely afternoon in good company anyway.
