Deep Bass
A gannet diving for fish off Belhaven Sands, the Bass Rock behind. These fantastic birds summer on the Bass Rock, feeding along the coast in large numbers. Their latin name is derived from the Bass Rock: Sula bassana.
When they find a shoal of fish they repeatedly dive for them from 50 feet or so, and with a 6 foot wingspan that's a pretty deep dive. It's generally accepted that 5 metres is the average depth, but a study I've cited before says 19 metres!.
Big Bomb.
I also merged 3 photos to make this time-series of 2 birds diving in font of the Isle of May. All of those were nearly-blip material but I like the detail you can see in this one.
Other than that, a work-at-home day with a beach walk afterwards with the children. Duncan was off school this morning, more tiredness than anything I think because he was having a fine time on the beach by the end of the day.
