The Great Stour in Canterbury

Went to the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury for a performance by Rick Wakeman of his new album Piano Portraits. An what an evening it was. He's a bit of a raconteur with may hillarious stories and asides which complimented his astonishing skills on the piano. So much was mesmerising. A complete range from his work with Yes, David Bowie, The Beatles classical composers, including playing in the style of Motzart, DeBussey, Ravel and so on.

He played a Nursery Rhyme medley to appeal to the innate intellectual nature of the Canterbury audience. In addition to playing in Hickory Dickery Dock, Three Blind Mice he played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in the style of Les Dawson. It brought the house down.

It was a fine evening in Canterbury as we walked to the theatre alongside the Great Stour through the Abbot's Mill Gardens. All the times I've been to Canterbury, this was the first time I've been along this stretch. When we left there was still light in the western sky which was still evidence when we arrived home. A glorious summer's day and evening.

I was going to blip a sea of white which we walked through this morning; white Queen Anne's Lace in great profusion a humming with bees and backed by trees laden with elderflowers but this evening view pipped that shot.

I'm in the process of making this year's batch of Eldeflower Champagne. It's in a bucket fermenting, should be ready to be bottled by Thursday.
