We're off!
Left the dock at 11am today and hurried north. No wind. Good for us as we had to make the "turn" at Dodd Narrows by 2:10pm. The currents are treacherous at several passes into the Gulf Islands. Following the tide and current tables let mariners know when "slack" water is at these passes. That is the time when the current changes from an ebb to a flood or vice versa and for a short time the water is calm and safe for small boats to transit. This is 8 minutes after published slack water in the the tide tables and already it is turbulent!! Two HUGE tows came through this narrow passage going the other way just as we approached. Safely tied to a mooring at Newcastle Marine Park. Getting our sea legs. HAPPY to be on the water.
