Saltaire URC

Had an afternoon work meeting in Saltaire today, so took the opertunity for a gentle amble around the village. Saltaire is a World Heritage Site, a purpose built village, Sir Titus brought his mill empire under one roof and built houses (of a much higher standard than normal at the time), reading rooms, bath houses, hospital and much more for his workers. Motivated by emerging socialist and Christian values in Victorian times, as the workers left the mill after a days work, this was the site that greeted them.

It remains a genuinetly lovely building, more so for me externally than internally - perhaps that's taste, perhaps it's the Victorian emphasis of external aesthetics.
