The dram that got away
Found myself with an hour or so to wait in Kirkwall today so took a wander along the beach at Scapa to the waterfall where the Lingro burn tumbles down the cliffs below the Scapa distillery.
Tempting though it is, especially from the point of making sense of my title, to watch this sparkling water and think this is the water source for the whisky I believe that is piped in from the Orquil springs. I think the lingro burn was used to drive a waterwheel which provided the power for the distillery in the past.
Whatever the water is used for it's a great spot to sit in the sun and watch the activity in the bay. People swimming and kayaking, wandering the beach with dogs of all sorts- including one that I'm confined was actually a lion. There was even a sailing ship coming on to moor up at the pier on the other side of the bay. Not a bad way to pass an hour.
