This is where we intended to walk to today - the summit of Wansfell, a circular route from home.

The weather forecast was duly checked …….. two in fact, and there was only a small chance of a shower. With waterproof jackets packed we set off, up through Blue Hill Wood, leading into Skelghyll Wood, and that was when the first shower came. A few minutes sheltering under a tree and we were off again, over the stile and on to the fell.

Ten minutes later another shower hit, this one of hailstones ....... in June!  The sky to the north and west showed no sign of clearing so we abandoned the walk, returned home and watched French Open tennis on TV. The sky has been blue this afternoon.  Almost 4 miles walked so better than nothing.
