Today's the day ....................... for a special excursion

If you were minded to, you could have gone on a NENTA Traintours trip today - from Norwich to Ravenglass and back. 

It would have been a long day, up at the crack of dawn and not home to Norwich until after nine o'clock this evening - but I'm sure you would have had a great day.  The scenery, especially in the Lake District, would have been spectacular and no doubt you would have been well fed and watered.  You would have been travelling on a special train of Mark 2 West Coast Railway InterCity coaches, top & tailed with two Class 47 diesel locomotives (Nos 47826 and 47804 to be precise). 

The British Rail Class 47  is a class of diesel-electric locomotives that were developed in the 1960s with the aim of completely replacing steam ones by a target date of 1968.  A total of 512 Class 47s were built between 1962 and 1968, which made them the most numerous class of British mainline diesel locomotive.  In 2017, after over 55 years of front line passenger and freight operations, only thirty of them are still operational.
