Middle-age celebration
Been on half term holiday this week. On the first Saturday I formulated a project to turn my mess of a front garden into something new. It was an uneven, wild, grass/weed cat toilet (bloody pests) of a wasted space and I had plans....
With Jnr Jnr, we drew up a scaled drawing of the layout and talked about what we could do, even creating a rather whizzy costing [colour-coded] spreadsheet. With a lot of digging (a hell of a lot), levelling, chopping, lifting, spreading, screwing (easy now) and planting we now have what Jnr Jnr described as "something you'd see in a magazine". That cheered me up when she said that :)
I now have borders with lavender, box and some other plants (not sure what, they're green) held in place with some hopefully long-lasting sleepers. The grass has been replaced with a series of raised beds, surrounded by gravel, that I have populated with a wide range of herbs: the aim being to have a diverse edible garden that anyone who walks past can help themselves to for some ingredients to use if they so wish.
A glass of bubbly had already taken away the pain from my left shoulder - the only injury I suffered over the week's toil.
