Here's lookin' at you...
Visited one of the Art Fund Museum of the Year Nominees today. It was the Lapworth Museum of Geology which I had never heard of before yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to find out that I didn't need to go all the way to Lapworth for it (Not that Lapworth is that far really).
It's at Birmingham University in Edgbaston. I like going there as I think the architecture is amazing in its diversity, So I thought I would probably find a Blip there somewhere.
Geology has never been a passion of mine but I found this small museum fascinating and beautiful. There were some amazing fossils and other geological wonders on display and I thought everything was really well explained. The museum dates back to 1880 and it is one of the oldest specialist museums in the UK. It has recently been subject to a £2.7m redevelopment and has lots of hands on displays which the children who were there today were thoroughly enjoying. It is located in one of the sections of the grade II listed Aston Webb Building which we enjoyed looking at too.
If you like geology, I can recommend a visit!
