'Rough Weather, Nice Drive'

The wind was blowing a gale down at Te Anau last night and then the rain came. As we were checking out of our accommodation this morning an email arrived at Ray's (our host / tour guide) computer advising that the road into Milford Sound had again been closed due to avalanches overnight with very high winds and storms. We were extremely lucky to get in there yesterday and it will possibly be closed for a few days now until the road has been cleared and made safe again. Apparently the authorities regularly set off explosives to force the avalanches in known areas so that they don't happen too unexpectadly.

We headed back to Queenstown to pick up my phone charger which I left there and then headed back to Arrowtown for a quick Thai lunch before heading back over the hills to Wanaka.

This shot was taken on the way back up the hill overlooking the valley towards Queenstown.

After we had checked into our room, we headed out to the Cheeky Monkey for a blipmeet with The Boss from Tussock Tales and A Cycling granny. It was a real pleasure to meet them and have a good chat with 2 of my blip heroes. The kids were a bit dissapointed that Tussock wasn't there as she is the real star of the show, but we might get a chance tomorrow before we head further north. These are two very passionate blippers and it was great to share some stories with them. The shop owner allowed us to overstay closing time which was an extra bonus.

After that we headed down to the lake to see 'THE TREE' and walked down the track in the rain with the kids. Took a few shots there, but weren't really happy with the framing, will try to head down there early tomorrow morning if the weather is kind to us. Mrs Rosewarne might blip one of hers from there later tonight.

Looking forward to another day in blip paradise tomorrow.
