While I was working on my clear out of the spare room (which is still not finished) I found a book I bought in a charity shop some time ago about black and white still life photography.  There are some photographs in it by John Blakemore, an English photographer who photographs landscapes, flowers and documentary scenes.  His photographs of tulips are extraordinary and so this was the inspiration for my image of tulip stems.
