Έχω σπάσει τον εαυτό μου

On Wednesday whilst waiting for the wi-fi repair men to arrive I dug over the entire cottage garden, removing all the mallow I had been using as a purple-hazy lawn. As lush ground cover, mallow just wasn't working. The wi-fi repair men were delayed, something about a broken strap on their sedan chair.

Today first I dug up 6 pink+white mirabilis and re-planted them in a line with their friends. I then set out a grid and planted 10 margaritas of the big cascading kind that most people plant at the top of an ugly wall but which I intend to use as ground cover. I then dug up another 5 margaritas and replanted them in the same grid. Then I planted 7 basils from the bed where I had just removed 5 margaritas. Next was a row of 8 pure pink mirabilis, a row of 10 yellow+pink mirabilis and finally a row of 9 pure peach mirabilis. At the moment it all looks a bit formal, rather like a Beatrix Potter vegetable garden in neat rows, but as the margaritas spread horizontally and the mirabilis begin to poke up through them vertically I hope it will develop into something rather interesting. At least we have enough water to keep them happy this summer.

By the time I finished I felt as though I had fallen down a very long hill. Absolutely every muscle ached and I could hardly walk.
