Roslin Chapel

A very chilly, blowy day, perfect for exploration on the buses, just to see where they go, so we went to Roslin, the pretty way.

This meant a no.15 bus from Fairmilehead down to Portobello, then onto a new route, no.40, which took us through outlying towns and villages ((Inveresk, Dalkeith, Lasswade) including two large Tesco stores, over the course of an hour or so.

We could have continued to Penicuik but had planned to have lunch in the cafe at Roslin Chapel and were miffed to discover that this was not allowed unless we purchased a ticket to visit the chapel. We've been there before and had no plan to go again in the immediate future, so, on principle, we took our business to the Original Rosslyn Inn. (I blame Dan Brown and his daft story about a Holy Grail, turning this lovely chapel into an entry on a world-wide bucket-list thus attracting vast numbers of gawpers to the scene of the denoument, requiring stewards and facilities for their exclusive use. Not that I'm bitter...). I took this photo from outside the railings, to the rear, where it is obvious that the repairs are still underway.

After a wander round the village we caught a no.15 home, having had a nice run in the country.
