Surgeons' Hall

What it says on the brass plate, originally Surgeon's Hall, Edinburgh dates from 1699 when the Incorporation of Edinburgh Surgeons announced that they were making a collection of 'natural and artificial curiosities'.

The current building was a Playfair design completed in 1832 for a profession that many of us in the first world take for granted.
