Eddie

worked hard through the morning checking for explosives, so his handler planted some treats amongst some boxes of used books being delivered to the Oxfam stall.

Back in the days when I worked for British Forces Broadcasting we used to do live events from military bases, and often had a cheerful visit from the likes of Eddie. One of the bigger scale things was the Queen's Birthday Parade in the Olympic Stadium, Berlin (1936 style). The dogs were there early; as were the excellent German Police. They came in various dress codes: gleamingly polished green uniforms for front of house; heavily armed and in riot gear, discreetly lurking round the back; and charmingly scruffy plain clothes (lots of aubergine and mustard tones, that year), with oddly heavy picnic bags.

So thanks to the dogs and their handlers and the highly trained young men and women who turn up at events for work, not fun, so that I can be safe.
