Redhouse Castle

We called in to Redhouse nurseries for coffee and a peek at the castle ruins - actually I was more interested in the doocot until I noticed the front entrance to the castle.
Now badly worn, it is still possible to make out the motto over the lintel "Nisi Dominus Frustra" (also the motto of the city of Edinburgh), above this are the initials of owners John Layng and Rebecca Dennistoun, who bought the property in 1607 from the Douglas family.
