Assemblage

Back at the Lara Favaretto exhibition at the Contemporary which I'm finding increasingly compelling. I only stopped by to see how the vapour cloud was looking today but I ended up going in for a wander. The concrete shapes here are from a vast "seemingly random assemblage" of scrap metal she made behind a gallery in Germany, actually very carefully constructed to echo real photos of the aftermath of natural disasters. Nine pieces of metal were then removed, displayed in the gallery and replaced with concrete casts of themselves. Later the metal was all dismantled and disposed of but the concrete remains as a sculptural installation. Very conceptual stuff obviously but curiously moving. There's a soundtrack of dank industrial clunking just to 
add to things, a bit like being outside a factory. I didn't ask these lads what they thought...
