A Sea Change
Yesterday I went to my suppliers to buy some inkjet paper and set in action a chain of events that have quite taken me by surprise. For the past couple of decades I've carried around a huge Canon camera, with an even more huge fat zoom bolted on the front. The combined weight is over 4 and 1/2 pounds. Over the past year my passion for photography has waned. I seldom took the big kit out except on 'shoots' and relied on a tiny compact for my normal days out. The big Canon was just toooo heavy, tooo cumbersome and too 'in your face'.
Yesterday Howard, the owner of PFD where I buy all of my gear said to me 'time for a change Jay', and handed me a Canon 5D with a dinky 24-70 f4 lens. This morning, full of trepidation, I packed my 1DS mk2 and its 24-70 f2.8 zoom and part exchanged them for the new kit.
Another pro in the showroom told me what a big mistake I was making. 'Huge image files but they'll all be blurry due to the poor autofocus.'
So this afternoon I set off with Tommy and my new toy. And blew my concerns away!
I've discovered my love for photography again.
