Norham Castle

This is a view of the ruins of Norham Castle viewed through the west gate which was the main entrance to the castle. Norham Castle overlooks the River Tweed which is the border between Scotland and England The Castle sits on there southern side of the river in Northumberland and has been the subject of many battles and sieges in the border disputes between England and Scotland. It was also the subject of one of Turner's most famous paintings currently on display at the Tate Gallery. It was the castle where Edward I, known as the Hammer of the Scots appointed John Balliol as King of the Scots.
